About Candidate
In my current role as a support worker with Northern health care, I have had the opportunity of working across different Northern health care locations. I have worked quite a lot on Mary seacole and Helena house and I have gained invaluable experiences from working there. The aspiration to join your trust in a permanent role was shaped by various reasons. I am compassionate and empathetic and love to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals going through challenging times. I would like to be part of a team that is dedicated to improving the lives of others in a respectful manner, showing proper regard to their right to privacy and dignity whilst promoting quality of life and independence.
EXPERIENCE
Having worked for Northern health care across different locations, I have experience with people with Mental Health and Learning Disabilities. I have had the opportunity and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and working with diverse groups of people developing a range of basic care skills and developing competencies in basic clinical care. I have been involved in the delivery of therapeutic activities alongside the Occupational Therapist to improve the psychological, social, and emotional well-being of patients. My ability to understand and build up trust and rapport with people coupled with a genuine concern for their well-being allows me to provide compassionate support. I can plan and prioritize tasks under the direction of a qualified member of staff, manage time efficiently, and apply my experience of Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression techniques using the least restrictive approaches to the smooth execution of my daily responsibilities. My experience working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, families, and support services ensures seamless coordination for comprehensive and personalized care. I work well under pressure and have a mind that works simultaneously to think creatively and logically to solve problems, an asset in unpredictable situations such as in a hospital environment and caring for people with mental health. I have learned so much about how mental health affects people’s way of life, daily functions, personality, and character, and I want to continue this journey by working towards a qualification in Mental Health Nursing which is one of the reasons I would like to pursue a career as a Nursing Assistant as the first step.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION
I have a WAEC (West African Examinations Council) certificate, an equivalent level of education as the GCSE with a pass in English and Math. which has shaped my competence/skill in ICT, a skill that would help me in my daily job. I am willing to complete the Care Certificate, take short courses to undertake patient and clinical care duties, and complete all essential training in accordance with the compliance matrix for this role upon appointment. Having recently joined Northern health care I have completed the PMVA training and I would attend regular update trainings as required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
I can build and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families and communicate effectively through speaking and writing. My good interpersonal skills give me the ability to engage with people who are experiencing mental ill health and communication barriers. I exhibit calmness in challenging situations displaying patience and empathy. I understand and can keep all patient matters and information confidential. I can report observations accurately and concisely, treat people with respect and dignity, value diversity and promote equality of opportunity for all and ensure individuals are treated fairly, and I can work flexible hours. My extensive experience in health care gives me the ability to use basic applications like MS Word and Outlook and I am willing to be trained to use Trust IT systems and applications such as Electronic Patient Records or PARIS.
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING
I possess knowledge of care and related procedures, coupled with an understanding of clinical observations. My awareness extends to Mental Health and Mental Illness with their effects on individuals, families, and friends. I have a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, awareness of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and exhibit a strong willingness to continually learn. I am aware of the impact of illicit drug use and early prevention of violence and aggression using the least restrictive interventions and practices. I am prepared to attend regular PMVA update training as required. I recognize changes in a patient’s mental and physical condition and I proactively alert qualified practitioners or the nurse in charge as appropriate. I understand the stigma and discrimination faced by individuals with mental health issues, emphasizing the importance of empathy and fostering a supportive environment. I also understand ward procedures and clinical observations and I maintain skills in practice whilst attending regular update training. I have completed the core and essential training on LMS including courses on Equality and Diversity, Infection Control, Health and Safety, Safeguarding children, Safeguarding adults, Fraud Awareness, Mental Capacity Act, etc.
I will be leveraging the first-hand experiences that I have gained from several Northern health care Mental Health department upon appointment.
